| There’s not much to say when it comes to Bethany and the Guitar. She’s eighteen and she makes the best kind of music that’s out there – music from the heart. Combining soulful vocals, indie pop guitar, and pumping drum machines, Bethany & the Guitar has been a hit with listeners from the start. Nearly every song off her self-titled debut EP hit the “hot music list” at well known indie music site, thesixtyone.com, and her presence online at Myspace and LastFM has been growing steadily since the late February release. The unique idea behind the music, is to release a new 5 song EP every semester, so that there’s never a lack for new songs. Behind the whole project was the inspiration of her older brother Kurtis Parks, who produces and co-writes much of the material. “It’s the kind of sound that was made for the Ipod. Like a soundtrack to life, where you can’t help but smile when you listen,” says Kurtis. Bethany & the Guitar has started a contagious new sound, blending all the best parts of Colbie Cailat, Brooke Fraser, and Ingrid Michaelson. Bethany just wrapped up her freshman year at Virginia Tech, where she captured audiences in coffeehouses and anywhere else she could set up a mic and guitar. Bethany says it best herself – “I want people to know that the music was made from scratch. It’s homemade, and real. It’s all me and Kurtis, just creating.” In a world of fake, autotuned chaos, Bethany & the Guitar is the jam. |
